Election process 2020 and dates

  • Phase 1 – Nomination (23 July – 12 August)

The EACS Secretariat will compile a list of potential candidates based on quantitative criteria:

  2. Resident or working in a European country;
  3. Be a medical doctor
  4. Not older than 65 years of age on 1/01/2021 and not older than 70 years on 31/12/2025.

All EACS members, except the members who are from the Rest of World region, in good standing receive a list of potential candidates they can choose from. They are asked to nominate a maximum of four (4) members from their region, except for the North- and West- region where they are asked to nominate a maximum of three (3) members. They may nominate themselves.

  • Phase 2 – Confirmation of candidates (14-28 August)

The nominees are asked if they wish to stand for election.

These candidates will then have to:

  1. Submit a short CV;
  2. Submit a statement of intent regarding their commitment to the EACS mission and how they would personally contribute to it;
  3. Submit a recent picture.

  • Phase 3 – Approval by the Bureau

The Bureau receives a list of all nominations, which will be returned by the Bureau stating if the nomination is approved or not.

The Bureau should decide based on the same qualitative criteria:

  1. Active professional involvement in the field of HIV/AIDS for five (5) or more years;
  2. Ability to demonstrate leadership in the field of HIV/AIDS;
  3. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of HIV/AIDS organisations, societies, and networks in their regions and involvement in them.

  • Phase 4 – Notification to Nominees

Nominees receive a letter of notification informing them that they have been nominated to stand election.

  • Phase 5 – Online VOTING (12 October – 3 November)

EACS members in good standing receive an email asking them to vote for members from their regions, except Rest of World.

There will be a list to choose from, showing the first and last name of the nominees from their region.

Through a link, they can access a secured voting website showing further details of each nominees from their respective region.

  • Phase 6 – General Assembly (11 December)

The nominees who received the most votes are elected on the Governing Board.

The Governing Board is appointed or reappointed at the General Assembly consisting of the EACS members who are in good standing.
